In cases of medical illness, there is substantial evidence
that this form of therapy helps people cope better with their illness, enhances the quality of their lives.
Researchers at Carnegie-Mellon University, have studied the impact of support groups for more than a decade. They report that “support groups have been beneficial to many people living with chronic diseases." Studies show that support groups can improve mood, provide better coping skills, decrease pain and provide relief from negative emotions.
